For several days in a local shop in the very center of Poland I have regularly listened to what and to whom it was cold during this year's May wave of cold. On one of the nearby strawberry plantations in my gardening and scholar region, between Warsaw and Łódź, as much as 80 percent of the cultivation went to losses. From many regions of Poland – Podlasie, Mazovia, Lodz Land, Lublin region and others – information about the damage that frosts have made for several days.
When a cool front entered our country on May 3, gradual, consistent cooling began. At night, the temperature generally dropped to -5/-2 degrees Celsius, and at the ground to -8/-5 degrees, but on May 8 in the morning the temperature at the Biebrza telemetry station, belonging to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management of Biebrza, fell at the ground to -11 degrees C. The last time was so cold on May 4, 2011, when the similar value was in Toruń. Of course, in places, especially in northern and eastern Poland, it could have been even colder.
