A man who pushed a postman onto the London Underground tracks on his way home from work has been found guilty of attempted murder, with the driver telling the court the victim “would have died if he had been on the tracks a few seconds later”.

Twenty-four-year-old Brwa Shorsh pushed 61-year-old Tadeusz Potoczek onto the tracks at the Oxford Circus stop on February 3, 2024. The postman, who was returning from work, “narrowly” avoided touching the live rail and thus being electrocuted, a hearing at London Crown Court heard on Wednesday. Shorsch was found guilty of attempted murder. The verdict in the case will be announced on September 26, the British Transport Police said in a statement on its website. The judge spoke of a “lengthy prison sentence” during the last hearing.

The court heard that the 61-year-old was able to get onto the platform with the help of another metro passenger. The driver of the train, which stopped at the station a short while later, said that Potoczek “would have died if he had been on the tracks a few seconds later.”

Shorsh, who testified through a Kurdish interpreter during the trial, claimed he was “pissed off” at Potoczek because he “looked at him askance.”
