Tram drivers have completed the construction of a crossing between tracks in Muranów. This is a small but important investment that will have an impact on the tram network after the route to Wilanów is opened.
At the beginning of August we reported on the closure of the tracks along Stawki Street. Trams of line 35 were redirected to a detour along Jana Pawła II Street and Aleja “Solidarności”. This was due to renovation and reconstruction. An inter-track crossing was built between Pokorna and Lewartowskiego Streets.
“On Friday, August 16, we tested the new track layout, and from Monday, August 19 – as previously announced – line 35 trams will return to ul. Stawki,” Tramwaje Warszawskie reported.
“Work will continue over the weekend to reconstruct the car turnaround, and from September, work will be carried out to reclaim greenery in the lanes adjacent to the tracks,” the release stated.
Turnaround for the tram from Wilanów
Tram drivers reminded that after the route to Wilanów is opened, the switch will enable some trams to turn back from this district in accordance with the line layout prepared by the Public Transport Authority.
As part of public consultations on the transport system after the opening of the route to Wilanów, ZTM proposed that the connections to Miasteczko Wilanów and Stegny be based on three tram lines: 14, 15 and 19, which will replace buses running through Dolny Mokotów to Śródmieście.
Line 15 is to provide a connection with the city center and Żoliborz. It will be the basic line to Wilanów in two variants: longer and shorter. Basic route: Marymont Potok – Wilsona Square – Mickiewicza – Andersa – Bankowy Square – Marszałkowska – Zbawiciela Square – Unii Lubelskiej Square – Spacerowa – Belwederska – Sobieskiego – Miasteczko Wilanów.
Thanks to the switch on Stawki Street, half of the journeys will be carried out in a shorter variant. Trams will not reach Żoliborz and will turn around after the “Muranowska” stop. “15” will run every four minutes during peak hours, every 6 minutes outside of it and every 7.5 minutes on weekends.
According to the latest declarations of the line contractor and Tramwaje Warszawskie, the first trams to Miasteczko Wilanów will run at the turn of October and November.
