France. Car explodes in synagogue parking lot in La Grande-Motte. Policeman injured

An explosion occurred in the parking lot of a synagogue in the seaside town of La Grande-Motte in France. One car exploded and another caught fire. An officer was injured in the incident, local police said, treating the incident as attempted arson.

“A car exploded outside the synagogue in La Grande-Motte. A local police officer was injured,” William Maury of the French police union said on social media.

On BFM television he said that the policeman's life was not in danger.

Local media reported that two cars burst into flames, and one of them contained at least one gas canister.

Police are treating the incident as attempted arson. No further details were provided.

As Reuters points out, the parking lot belonged to the synagogue.

The search for the perpetrator is ongoing

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said police were looking for a suspect.

“I want to assure our Jewish fellow citizens and the city (of La Grande-Motte – ed.) of my full support,” Darmanin wrote on the X platform. He added that at the request of President Emmanuel Macron, “all resources are being mobilized to find the perpetrator.”
