Tomorrow we expect Germany to make a decision to tighten border controls with all its neighbors, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during the Conference of Heads of Foreign Missions of the Republic of Poland. As he stated, “such actions are unacceptable from the Polish point of view.”
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced on Monday that temporary controls will be introduced at all German land borders from September 16. They are to initially last for six months. Faeser explained that Germany must “control its borders even more tightly” and that the extended measures are intended to protect “against serious threats” caused by “Islamic terror and serious crime.”

The Prime Minister commented on this decision on Tuesday. Donald Tusk. – We expect tomorrow, and this is already widely reported in the media, a decision from Germany to tighten border controls with all of Germany's neighbours, including Poland, of course, and at all border crossings – he said.
As he added, this is “a de facto suspension of Schengen on such a large scale.”
– I can be treated as a guarantee of good relations with our neighbors, all of them, but also with the German state. And that is why it is perhaps appropriate for me to say more as an advocate of good Polish-German relations. Such actions are unacceptable from the Polish point of view, because I have no doubt that it is the internal political situation in Germany that is causing these steps to become more stringent, and not our policy towards illegal migration on our borders – he emphasized.
– Today we need full support from Germany and the entire European Union when it comes to helping organize, finance and arm our eastern border, also in the context of illegal migration – he added.
– Today, Poland does not need anyone to lecture us on this issue. We have been the most consistent country when it comes to warning against unwise decisions regarding both Ukraine, Russiainterests with Russia, and migration policy, he said.
The Prime Minister announced that “in the coming hours we will contact other countries that will be affected by Berlin's decisions for urgent consultations on action at the European Union forum on this issue.”
Tusk on “Poland's return to the international top league”
Tusk spoke during the Conference of Heads of Foreign Missions of the Republic of Poland, which began on Tuesday in Warsaw. This is an annual meeting with the participation of ambassadors, chargé d'affaires and permanent representatives of the Republic of Poland to international organizations. It is an opportunity to summarize events and trends in foreign policy and the observations of heads of Polish missions from around the world. The event will last until September 19.
– It is worth appreciating this treasure that we received from Polish women and men on October 15, that is, that suddenly Poland, I am not exaggerating, has once again become such a model example in the whole world. This atmosphere is a bit reminiscent of those few moments in our history, when Poland was spoken of as a sign of hope for various democracies, as well as for people who fight oppression, violence or lack of standards – he assessed.
– I am not talking about this because we are hungry for awards. It is very important that you not only skillfully use this return of Poland to the international top league, because it will certainly make your task easier when it comes to promoting our homeland, explaining our points of view, our policy, but at the same time I know that you will act, as you are acting today, in difficult conditions – he told the diplomats.
– I hope that in a few months your problems, I would say organizational and nomination problems, will end once and for all – said the Prime Minister.
