During Thursday's session, Warsaw's councilors unanimously adopted resolutions on financial aid for four flood-affected municipalities. Nysa, Lądek-Zdrój, Kłodzko, and Głuchołazy will each receive five million złoty from Warsaw.

City Secretary Maciej Fijałkowski said that these four cities were particularly affected by the flood. – We have established the scope of assistance with each of these municipalities. The damage there is so enormous that these amounts will be used in a way that does not raise any doubts as to the purpose – he added.

“Start-up Help”

The head of the KO councilors' club, Jarosław Szostakowski, pointed out that Warsaw has a long tradition of helping. He recalled that the capital also helped during the flood in 1997.

– If you go to Kłodzko, there is a housing estate named after Warszawa Centrum, which was built from the funds of the then Warszawa Centrum commune. Today we also need help – he added. He noted that it is known that this help will not cover all the losses, but it will always be some help to start with.

– We will monitor what is happening in Lower Silesia. The flood is not over yet – he emphasized. He declared that the KO councilors' club will support all aid solutions for the areas affected by the flood.

“Local government relay”

The head of the PiS councilors' club, Dariusz Figura, declared that the club would also support these projects. He explained that in the case of the flood-affected Stronie Śląskie commune, it was not technically possible at the moment to prepare a resolution on aid, but aid for this and other communes would be considered.

– I hope that what Warsaw has initiated will start a relay of large local governments, but also smaller ones, when it comes to helping the municipalities affected by this disaster – he added.

Representing the Left, Miasto Jest Nasze and Razem, councillor Agata Diduszko-Zyglewska emphasised that the club supports this initiative and is glad that Warsaw is once again rising to the challenge and behaving in solidarity.
