Flood profiteering continues. Prices of these products are rising

The prices of sandbags, food, water, and devices for drying houses and apartments have skyrocketed. Just one day after the announcement of the possibility of filing reports, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection received 27 reports of flood speculation – reported Friday's “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

The newspaper provides examples of current sandbag prices. On one Facebook group, the offer per bag is PLN 10.

“You can easily find ads on other websites where a bag of sand is sold for 20 or even 25 PLN,” we read.

“GW” interlocutor Damian Zawrotniak, known on social media as “pandocieliwy”, told the newspaper that he “received information about a company that sold sand at PLN 15 per tonne before the flood, and currently – PLN 15 for a ten-kilogram bag”.

“Before making a purchase, it is worth getting acquainted with what the city has to offer. WrocÅ‚aw is giving out sandbags for free. Each person can take a maximum of 20 bags at a time, which must be loaded and transported independently,” “Wyborcza” emphasized.

The store changed its price from PLN 1,599 to PLN 2,599 overnight, and then increased it by another PLN 300 within a few hours, to PLN 2,899,” we read.

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection encourages submission of reports

The monitoring of whether there is a violation of the provisions of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act in the flood-affected areas Office of Competition and Consumer Protection – reminds “GW”. The Office encourages all who suspect the use of such practices in flood-affected areas to contact.

“Just one day after the announcement of the possibility of filing notifications, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection received (…) 27 notifications regarding prices in flood areas,” the newspaper reported. They concerned price increases for dehumidifiers, power generators, bottled water, sand bags, galoshes and water filter bottles.”

“GW” also reminds that the Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Wednesday that, if necessary, the government will introduce official prices for some basic necessities.
