A flood wave on the Odra River is passing through Wrocław and Brzeg Dolny on Friday. The Lubuskie and Zachodniopomorskie provinces are already preparing for the arrival of the great flood. – Villages between Wrocław and Nowa Sól are in a state of relative danger, especially where these embankments are lower – the director of INGW said at the crisis headquarters in Wrocław. He added that there is also a risk of water overflowing the embankment in Głogów. Poland has been fighting floods for almost a week – after heavy rains caused by the Boris low.

The crisis headquarters is underway in Wrocław, where the peak wave on the Odra has been flowing since Thursday.

– My quick tour of the Lubuskie and Zachodniopomorskie provinces shows that they are well prepared. Zachodniopomorskie still has time for a possible high wave – said the prime minister Donald Tusk– It would be difficult to assume today that any major, massive events would occur in West Pomerania, which would require the concentration of large forces and resources – he added.

He emphasized that the situation is worse in the Lubuskie province. – There are some places that are definitely more exposed to high water. In Nowa Sól, we saw, as before, a huge commitment of the population. It seems that with this commitment, they have a real chance to avoid some dramatic events. It is certainly still a big effort and a serious matter, but everything indicates that there will be no dramatic events – said the Prime Minister.

Joanna Kopczyńska, president of Polish Waters, said that there have been many reports of damage to the shores following the passage of the wave.

– We have a large breach in Kłaczyn, this is the Nysa Szalona river, this huge breach is 97 meters long – said Kopczyńska and added that the services are trying to secure it.

It is another day of fighting floods in southwestern Poland. According to data presented by representatives of IMGW and Wody Polskie on Friday morning, the flood situation is stabilizing: in Wrocław the water is slowly starting to subside. Small increases are observed below on the Oder, on the border of the Lower Silesian and Lubuskie provinces.

Throughout Poland on Friday afternoon, the water level on the Odra River exceeded the alarm level at almost 40 stations.

Where will the wave be?

During the headquarters meeting on Friday, the director of IMWM, prof. dr hab. Robert Czerniawski, also spoke.

– In Trestno, if we are talking about Wrocław, we have a drop of about 20 centimetres. In Brzeg Dolny we currently have stabilization, it is maintained at a level of about 950 cm, there is no threat there, if nothing unforeseen happens, it will certainly not (water – ed.) over the embankments – he said.

He also said about the situations in the towns: Malczyce – there are “stable state fluctuations”, Scinawa – on Saturday at noon the level is expected to be 660 cm, “if nothing unexpected happens, there will be no risk of water overflowing the embankments”, Glogow – there is a risk of water overflowing the embankment, New Salt -also a “worrying” situation, but not as bad as in Głogów.

– IN Rightists 20-30 cm were missing to overflow (the water – ed.) over the embankments. In Injury the situation is a little better, but the residents are also fighting there – the director of IMGW said. – These all villages between Wrocław and Nowa Sól are in a state of relative danger, especially where the embankments are lower, he added.

Prof. dr hab. Robert Czerniawski also reported that the Odra wave will miss the waves of the Bóbr and Nysa. – But the threat situation in these locations is not small at all. From Głogów downwards, we have to reckon with a situation of greater or lesser threat – he added.
