As reported on Friday by the spokeswoman for the police in Płock, Deputy Commissioner Monika Jakubowska, officers of the local department for combating economic crime determined that a 61-year-old resident of the city may be in possession of illegal tobacco products. This information was confirmed when the man's plot of land was searched.
On a property in the Podolczyce housing estate on the outskirts of Płock, police found almost 650,000 cigarettes without Polish excise stamps.
– The estimated value of the financial loss to the State Treasury due to unpaid taxes amounts to over PLN 800,000 – said Sub-inspector Jakubowska.
She added that the 61-year-old has been charged with storing excise goods without Polish markings, for which he faces up to three years in prison.
