Maciej Janowski was in the position before the competition Chorzow fifth place in the general classification, 12 points behind Andrzej Lebiediew from Latvia. It was rather difficult to imagine that the Betard Sparta Wrocław speedway rider would join the fight for the European Championship. Leon Madsen, Kacper Woryna and Piotr Pawlicki had a better chance, having collected more points than him in the three rounds so far.

Janowski's nightmare in Chorzów. Serious fall and injury

Janowski started the last round of the Tauron Speedway Euro Championship (SEC) well. In his first race he took second place, losing only to Robert Chmiel. In the second series he won his race, thanks to which he could seriously think about a place in the semi-finals of the round held at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów.

Janowski opened the third series. In the ninth race of the competition, he started on the outer track, and on his left side he had Madsen, Jacob Thorssell and Bartłomiej Kowalski right by the curb. Unfortunately, on the last bend there was an accident involving the Pole and the Swede. Janowski attacked Thorssell, rode wider than him, entered the bend at a higher speed. Unfortunately, he collided with his rival's motorcycle. His left hand remained for a moment between the rear fender and the spinning wheel of Thorssell's machine. He lost balance and fell. He let go of his bike, which hit his other hand after bouncing off a hole in the road. Janowski landed under the barrier, requiring medical attention.

Eventually, the Polish speedway rider had to be taken to hospital. As reported by TVP Sport reporters, Janowski was taken to a facility in Sosnowiec. The station's journalist Filip Czyszanowski reported that there was a suspicion of a fracture of the left hand at the wrist.

If the medical tests show a fracture, it will be devastating news not only for Janowski, who will not ride until the end of the season, but for Betard Sparta Wrocław. The team from the capital of Lower Silesia has a rematch of the semi-final ahead of them PGE Ekstraliga with ebut.pl Stal Gorzów. The Wrocław team will defend a two-point lead from the first match. The match has already been postponed several times due to flood risk.
