Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański: flood increases the likelihood of budget amendment

– When it comes to amending the budget, the flood certainly increases the likelihood of amending the budget this year – said Domański.

– It will also be necessary, for example, to increase special reserves in the budget for 2025. Such actions will be taken within the next two weeks at the most – he added.

Asked whether there would be a decision on the budget amendment within two weeks, Domański said: “Yes, final decisions must be made on this topic. I think we will know more about the scale of losses and also other sources of financing.”

– It is very important to me that as much of the expenditure as possible is financed from EU funds – he added.

– At the moment, the losses are still being estimated, the voivodes are sending their estimates but we know that these are not complete estimates yet – said Domański.

– We are certainly talking about tens of billions of zlotys – he added.

The Minister of Finance indicated that within the next two weeks the government should be able to estimate how large this amount will be. He added that “the announcement from the Lower Silesian Voivode about the initial estimate indicates an amount of almost PLN 4 billion”.

Domański was a guest of Agata Adamek on Friday in “One on One”. Asked on TVN24 about money from the European Union – 5 billion euros for Poland – Domański emphasized that “EU funds are huge and it is worth talking about it”.

– However, of course, we are still looking for these funds in the budget (…). At the moment, we have secured PLN 2 billion for such immediate aid, which is already reaching people affected by the flood. We receive applications from voivodes, they are accepted Ministry of Interior and Administration and we will immediately redirect these funds, Domański said.

As he said, “we have so far sent – actually released such reserves – these are not large amounts yet, because these applications are only just starting to arrive, so we are talking about low tens of millions of zlotys“. – But we are ready to send, to transfer these 2 billion – he assured.

The head of the Ministry of Finance added that PLN 2 billion has already been secured, and this amount “will certainly increase”. He also noted that there are no estimates of losses yet, but he is in constant contact with the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and this amount will be adjusted to the estimated losses and incoming applications.
