Over seven and a half million zlotys have already been raised and the collection is ongoing. The facility is one of many places affected by the flood, but also a special place. How much it is needed – this is demonstrated by the field hospital besieged by patients.
The director already has a plan to make the hospital in Nysa accept patients again. The TVN Foundation will help in its implementation.
– This is a very important gesture for me, because the support from the TVN Foundation brings us much closer to launching our hospital as soon as possible, which is my priority today – says Artur KamiÅ„ski, director of the District Hospital in Nysa.
The president of the TVN Foundation came personally not only to see the scale of the destruction, but also to ensure that all the money from the charity collection, which started 10 days ago and is still ongoing, will be donated to the renovation of the District Hospital in Nysa and equipment. medical. It is the largest district hospital in the Opole Voivodeship.
– We collected nearly PLN eight million during our charity collection. This is an incredible result, which is a success for us and our viewers – says Zuzanna Lewandowska, president of the TVN Foundation.
When the water began to enter the hospital in Nysa, there were over 100 patients there. Firefighters and soldiers helped in their evacuation. It was a dramatic fight for their lives and health. Nothing happened to anyone. – Everyone there rose to the challenge. Thank you very, very much for this – says Minister of Health Izabela Leszczyna.
The hospital's losses exceed PLN 50 million
When the water receded, it didn't matter whether they were paramedics, doctors, nurses or front desk workers. They grabbed mops and brushes to save whatever they could. The inhabitants of Nysa also helped.
– This is our second family – Janina RogaliÅ„ska, a nurse, said on September 20 about the employees of the hospital in Nysa. – We have a lot of emotions, both good and bad, but now we have shown that we are a real team and we support each other – agreed Agnieszka Jankowicz, a nurse.
Unfortunately, not everything could be cleaned and repaired. The hospital director initially calculated the losses at over PLN 50 million.
– The TVN Foundation will finance the purchase of the most key elements, without which the hospital cannot function – announces Zuzanna Lewandowska.
– We want to buy a new stationary computed tomography scanner with the entire laboratory, we want to buy a new X-ray machine with the entire laboratory, we want to buy a new ambulance – says Artur KamiÅ„ski.
The list of needs is long. The element destroyed, among others, two tomographs and an MRI scanner. The hyperbaric chamber – the only one in the voivodeship – is also not working yet. – We will probably start the treatments again on October 7 – announces Mr. BartÅ‚omiej, the hyperbaric chamber operator.
“This is a district hospital. It helps many cities”
– We are worried that so much equipment has been destroyed – says one of the residents of Nysa. – This is a district hospital. He helps many towns nearby in our commune, as does another resident.
If everything goes according to plan, the director expects that the hospital will admit its first patients in four weeks. Not where you're not allowed, but on the upper floors. Where the water didn't get.
– The worst is already behind us and I don't want to say that it's all downhill, because it's still uphill, but we have a clearly defined plan to launch the hospital, and that's what we're focusing on today – says Artur Kaminski.
It is also crucial to recreate the flooded diagnostic testing room. The Jurek Owsiak Foundation comes to the rescue in this matter. – Thanks to the support of WOÅšP, we have already rented it and it will be paid for by WOÅšP. Such a mobile tomograph – says Artur KamiÅ„ski.
The Minister of Health claims that renovation is not enough. The hospital should be moved to a modern building. To a place where no flood will threaten it anymore.
– I would really like to sit down with the authorities of the Opole Voivodeship, probably also more broadly, but above all with the mayor, and talk about a new hospital for Nysa – says Izabela Leszczyna.
– We will lobby very hard and keep the minister at her word, because this is a very important task and will certainly improve the health safety of all our residents – emphasizes Artur KamiÅ„ski.
These are plans for the future. For now, every penny counts to help rebuild what was destroyed. The charity collection continues. Payments can be made to the account number provided on the TVN Foundation website or via SMS or BLIK.
