The first snow fell in the Romanian mountains. The snow cover was up to 10 centimeters in places. At an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level, the temperature dropped to -5 degrees Celsius.

In Romania, the first snow fell in the mountains on the last weekend of September. The peaks were covered with a thin layer of white fluff.

According to the National Meteorological Administration, on Monday morning the temperature at the top of Omu (Mount Bucegi), at an altitude of over 2,500 meters above sea level, dropped to -5 degrees Celsius. In the Kelimen Mountains, thermometers recorded -4 degrees Celsius, and in the vicinity of Lake Balea Lac in the Fagaras Mountains, thermometers recorded -3 degrees Celsius. Snow cover is up to 10 centimeters in places.

Snow also appeared on the Transfagarasan and Transalpine routes. It is also expected to turn white by Tuesday morning in the Eastern and Southern Carpathians. Level 1 warnings for sleet and snow are in effect in these regions.

Downpours in Romania

Level 1 warnings for heavy rainfall are also in effect in parts of Romania. They concern the regions of Moldova, Dobruja and eastern Muntenia. Forecasters predict rainfall of 25-40 liters per square meter, locally 50 l/sq m.

On Sunday, it rained heavily, among others, in the capital of the country – Bucharest. The streets there were flooded. The wind also knocked down trees there, which fell and damaged many cars and houses.

Five thousand people were evacuated due to heavy rains in the Galač district, which is located in the southeast of Romania. Many residents have yet to repair their homes following the damage caused by last week's floods.
