Robert Lewandowski has had hero status in Spain since the beginning of the season. In the colors of FC Barcelona, his shooting skills have been maintained at a very high level for a long time. Suffice it to say that he scored 12 goals in 11 matches in all competitions for the club. Meanwhile, it has no particular impact on playing in the Polish national team. The Catalan “Sport” was even concerned that although Lewandowski scored a goal and made an assist in the September match against Scotland, he did not improve his achievements in subsequent matches against Croatia and Portugal. The Spanish already have an explanation.
Lewandowski ineffective in the squad. He fired straight. “I'm not a helper”
“Robert Lewandowski is on a goal scoring spree Barcelonabut is not finding the same effectiveness in these international breaks. (…) Meanwhile, in La Liga and Champions League he has already scored 12 goals in 11 matches, including three assists and a hat-trick,” we read in “AS”.
As “Mundo Deportivo” noted, in national team matches Lewandowski cannot use his greatest advantage, which is finishing, to such an extent. This is because Michał Probierz's team often has big problems with building action in the opponent's half.
– I wish I had more balls in the opponent's penalty area. I don't want to go down to the defense line to get the ball, to touch it, to have it somewhere in play, because that's not the point either. On the one hand, I have to be patient, but it wasn't just today that I missed those passes into the penalty area. This is something we definitely need to improve – Lewandowski complained, as we wrote in Sport.pl.
“At the age of 36, he is still a great reference point for the Polish national team, but unlike his current contribution to FC Barcelona, he is not able to use his best advantage, finishing,” we read.
Lewandowski did not hide his grudge against his teammates for not creating many opportunities for him in front of the opponent's goal. – During the match, I have to be closer to the penalty area and wait there for crosses, passes and balls until something happens. This is something we need to improve or change. Not only against Portugal, but in general, we don't seem to have the ball near the opponent's penalty area very often and the role of the striker is to try and do something there,” the FC Barcelona striker explained.
To prove the validity of Lewandowski's words, “Mundo Deportivo” referred to numbers. According to reports, this season for Barcelona he averaged 5.86 touches of the ball in the opponent's penalty area per match. In the Polish national team in the Nations League, 63 percent did so. less often. In the matches of the Spanish runner-up, he also took many more shots – 3.94 per match, while in the national team – only 2.33.
