The Pracownia na Rzecz Wszyskach Stotot Association wants to represent a she-wolf who was shot at the beginning of November in Wolimierz before law enforcement authorities. According to activists, the animal protected by law was not yet a year old and died one hundred meters from the hunting lodge.
“At the beginning of November, a female wolf from this year's litter was shot with a hunting weapon, barely a hundred meters from the pulpit, in the area leased by the hunting club and belonging to the Świeradów Zdrój forest district,” the Pracownia na Rzecz Wszystkich Stotut association reported.
The she-wolf was shot near the town of Wolimierz in Lubań County. The documentation was collected and handed over to the police and a person from the Świeradów Zdrój Forest District by activists from the “Z Szarym za Płotem” organization and the “Wolimierz” Association. According to the activists, based on the photos sent, a person employed in the forest district stated that it was “100% a fox”.

“Is it a scandalous lack of competence and a simple mistake, or maybe intentional misleading and covering up of traces? Over 140 wolves are killed every year in Poland, and since the late 1990s, when the wolf was placed under strict species protection, only seven people have been proven guilty of a crime Interestingly, six of these seven people were active hunters. The hunters explain that the convicted people were not officially hunting at the time of committing the crime, so they were simply poachers. But it was the Polish Hunting Association that gave them the ID on the basis of which they could become gun owners. Therefore, PZŁ is responsible for its members,” comments Radosław Ślusarczyk from the Workshop for All Beings.
The association announces that it is submitting an application to include the injured party – a female wolf – among the entities exercising the rights of the injured party.
Ślusarczyk reminds that wolves play an important role in the ecosystem, for example they hunt wild boars, eliminating weaker, sick individuals.
– For years, together with the scientific community, we have been demanding tougher penalties for killing protected species. Currently, most cases are discontinued. Therefore, this time, as an association, we will join the proceedings regarding the she-wolf killed near Wolimierz – sums up Ślusarczyk.
Wolves on the roads
Wolves also die on the roads. About 20 of them were killed in October alone.
