Szczecin. Several dozen people with symptoms of poisoning. The reason is a harmful substance in the casserole

Staphylococcal enterotoxin was found in a pasta casserole with chicken that poisoned several dozen employees of a West Pomeranian company. The place where the casserole was made was closed and production was stopped. – No fine has been issued yet – said the director of the border sanitary inspectorate in Szczecin.

The director of the Border Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczecin, Elżbieta Król-Pakulska, MD, PhD, said that the results indicated that the casserole contained staphylococcal enterotoxin.

– The canteen where the casserole was made has been closed for now, production has been suspended and will remain so until it is fully disinfected and cleaned – explained the director.

HACCP principles were also introduced, i.e. a system of hazard analysis and critical control points to ensure food safety.

Several dozen people with symptoms of poisoning

The first information on this matter appeared on October 22, when the Police Sanitary and Epidemiological Station received a report about food poisoning among employees of one of the companies from Mierzyn. A total of 30 people reported symptoms of poisoning, nine of them were taken to hospital. All the people said they ate pasta casserole with chicken.

Tomasz Owsik-KozÅ‚owski, spokesman for the provincial hospital in Szczecin, explained that people reported various symptoms of poisoning. – These included nausea, intense vomiting, diarrhea and general weakness – he added.

Sanitary and Epidemiological Station he then secured food samples and also checked the company canteen where the food was to be served.
