In the week before the presidential election, the FBI thwarted an Iranian assassination attempt against Donald Trump. This was announced by the US Ministry of Justice, quoted by Reuters.

According to information from the ministry, in September this year, an unnamed officer of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard ordered a certain Farhad Shakeri to track and then kill the candidate of the Republican Party for president.

The client, who was convinced that Trump would lose the election, stated that if the attack could not be carried out before the elections, it should be done later, when the protection of the (losing) candidate would be less tight.

Contacts established in prison

Portal Iran International claims that Shakeri is most likely in Iran, and two of his accomplices, accused of preparing an attack on one of the people staying in USA opposition Iranian journalists, is in custody in New York.

Shakeri emigrated to the United States as a child, but after being convicted of robbery and spending several years in prison, he was deported in 2008. Contacts established in prison allowed him to find potential contractors for orders from the Revolutionary Guard.

Attorney General Merrick Garland emphasized the threat Iran poses to key figures in the American political scene. “The charges announced today expose Iran's continued brazen attempts to target U.S. citizens (…) and dissidents who criticize the regime in Tehran,” he said.
