Sanitary Inspector in Gdynia: coliform bacteria in water in the city center

The authorities of Gdynia announced in a press release that there was water contamination in the water supply network in the Gdynia Śródmieście zone. Coliform bacteria were detected in Sanitary and Epidemiological Station tests. The inspectorate issued a decision on the conditional suitability of water for consumption after boiling.

The State District Sanitary Inspector in Gdynia announced that E. coli bacteria were detected in the tested water samples. Sanitary and Epidemiological Station issued a decision on conditional suitability for consumption for the Gdynia Śródmieście zone – the Gdynia City Hall announced on Friday.

“Water is suitable for consumption after boiling, but unheated water may be used only for sanitary and cleaning purposes. According to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, an important element that allowed the water to be conditionally approved for use was the lack of presence of pathogenic E. coli bacteria in the tested samples” – informs the website of the Gdynia City Hall.

PEWIK intervention in connection with water contamination

The Water and Sewerage Company (PEWIK), after receiving confirmation of the deterioration of water quality, started flushing sections of the water supply network in the Gdynia Śródmieście zone and introduced preventive disinfection of water supplying the zone, ensuring control of the concentration of free chlorine in the water.

PEWIK spokeswoman Anna Szpajer said that the situation is currently under the control of PEWIK Gdynia's operational services. – Corrective actions will be carried out until positive results of the microbiological quality of water are obtained at all selected monitoring points – informs the PEWIK spokeswoman.
