Mateusz Lis left Wisła Kraków three years ago for Turkish Altay (then second league), and just a year later he signed a contract with Southampton. He didn't make it in the Premier League club (without making his debut) and went on loan after loan – first to the French Troyes, and then to the Turkish Goeztepe.
After returning to the Bosphorus, the Polish goalkeeper showed good results (as many as 20 clean sheets in 31 matches) and helped the team advance to the national elite.. For this reason, he was bought out and is currently playing against the biggest Turkish clubs. The away game against Besiktas was bittersweet for him.
Mateusz Lis made a fatal mistake. It couldn't have ended worse
Already in the third minute, Lis had to take the ball out of the net after a spectacular shot by Semih Kilicsoy. And after another six minutes, he behaved disastrously when reaching for the ball. While clearing it from outside the penalty area, he hit… his own defender, Malcom Bokele. After a while, he scored an own goal and Goeztepe was already losing 0-2.
However, three minutes later, Bokele scored a contact goal and sent a signal that all was not lost. And Lis helped the team by deflecting a sharp shot from Arthur Masuaku (there was also a ricochet on the way). However, less than a quarter of an hour before the break, the guests scored again after a corner kick (Taha Altikardes) and the score was 2-2.

In the second half, the Pole was conscious of Milot Rashica's throw-in, after which the ball bounced off one of the Goeztepe players and this could have confused him. Besiktas wasted a lot of opportunities, which took revenge in the last minutes – first David Datro Fofana scored, and the result was set by former Raków Częstochowa player David Tijanić. Thanks to Sunday's victory, Goeztepe equalized the score of the Istanbul team (21 points) and surpassed them in the table (fifth, the latter sixth). For Mateusz Lis it was his 10th appearance in the season, he kept three clean sheets and in the remaining matches he conceded a total of 13 goals. It is worth adding that he played with the captain's armband eight times.
