New airport in Greenland: First plane at the new international airport in the capital Nuuk landed on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday (November 26-27) – reports Kalaallit Nunaata Radioa (KNR) – the Greenlandic public radio and television broadcaster. Planes will now be able to land in Nuuk, and not in Kangerlussuaq as before. Passengers can now fly without transfers, among others: to Copenhagen, which is the most frequent destination of the Air Greenland carrier.

Facilitation for residents: Currently, to visit Nuuk, the journey must be divided into at least two stages. Only small propeller planes that can carry up to 35 passengers fly there. Larger machines must end the route in Kangerlussuaq, which is located approximately 320 km north of the capital of Greenland. The airport built there was built on a military basis and regularly handles large aircraft. So far, Greenland has had two airports – one is located in Kangerlussuaq, and the other is in Narsarsuq in the south of the island. It was also established as a military base, but currently it operates large machines only seasonally.

The capital of Greenland opens to tourists: The flight from Europe or the US East Coast to Nuuk takes just over four hours. In addition to the new airport in the capital, two more airports are planned to be opened in the coming years – in Ilulissat and Qaqortoq in southern Greenland. Travelers are to use them in 2026. The island's authorities estimate that “the new schedule flights “will inevitably change the way we travel to and around Greenland, reducing costs and simplifying logistics.”
