Fire on the ship: On Thursday, November 28, the “Sofia” unit entered Ustka without cargo. The Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service SAR received information from the Danish services that an explosion occurred on a merchant ship fire. – Around 9:20 p.m., a report came from the Danes that the ship was on fire and was probably taking on water. We offered help and sent a helicopter from Darłowo, but Danish and Swedish helicopters arrived faster. They evacuated five-person crew – said SAR spokesman Rafał Goeck in an interview with PAP.

The ship is sailing to Poland: – We see the drifting unit in the automatic ship identification system. It is 32 nautical miles from the shore near Koszalin. Drifting at a speed of 1.2 knots – the spokeswoman of the Maritime Office in Szczecin said on Friday. Two Polish units were sent towards the ship drifting between Ustka and Darłowo: the multi-purpose SAR rescue tug “Kapitan Poinc” and the H8 tug from the 3rd Navy Ship Flotilla.

“Sofia” will be towed away: The ship's owner ordered a tugboat, which is sailing from Rostock, Germany. His task will be securing and towing damaged unit. – It is the shipowner who will decide whether the ship will be towed to the nearest port or directly to the repair shipyard – said Ewa Wieczorek, spokeswoman for the Maritime Office in Szczecin.
