Fiorentina's match against Inter was interrupted in the 16th minute after Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch. His teammates and players from Milan immediately rushed to help him. After a while, doctors appeared. He was carried on a stretcher to the ambulance and then taken to hospital. There he regained consciousness and recovered within a few days.
– He has already changed his branch. He is not in intensive care, but in the “Utic” ward. “It's something below intensive care,” Fiorentina CEO Alessandro Ferrari said on Friday. Bove remains in hospital and awaits surgery.
Bove will undergo surgery, after which he will have to change clubs
“La Gazzetta dello Sport” reported that the 22-year-old footballer's stay in hospital is slowly coming to an end. The only surgery left was to implant a cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), and it was scheduled for Monday. Afterwards, he will remain under observation and leave the medical facility.
Bove has been loaned from Roma to Fiorentina for this season. But a health situation and a scheduled surgery mean this loan will end prematurely. The Italian will not play in Rome either. Serie A regulations prohibit playing with implanted heart assist devices. For this reason, Christian Eriksen, who has the same device implanted, had to leave Inter Milan. He found his place in the Premier League – first he had good performances in Brentford, then he moved to Manchester United.
According to “LGdS”, after leaving the hospital, Bove will immediately go to Fiorentina's training center to say goodbye to the team. Then he will return to Rome. The Roma authorities want to give him a few weeks of rest first, and then they will start negotiations regarding the contract and transfer. He will most likely return to the game only in the new season.
A cardioverter-defibrillator is used in the case of life-threatening arrhythmias, such as ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia. It detects and interrupts ventricular arrhythmia using an electrical impulse.
Bove was considered a talent in Italian football. This season he played in 12 matches for Fiorentina, scoring one goal and providing four assists. The midfielder also played in 14 matches for the Italy U21 national team. Transfermarkt values him at EUR 14 million.
Fiorentina is currently fourth in the Serie A table, with 28 points after 13 matches.
