Matthias Wiedenlübbert, captain of the Trotamar III lifeboat, said that after finding the girl, rescuers began searching the surrounding areas, hoping to find other passengers. – But after a storm lasting for several days with winds of over 23 knots and waves as high as 2.5 meters, there was no hope – said Wiedenlübbert.

The captain added that the crew heard the baby calling in the dark. – It was an amazing coincidence that we heard the child's voice despite the engine running – he said.

The girl had hypothermia and she was dehydratedbut apart from that there was nothing wrong with her. She was taken to Lampedusa, where a doctor examined her.
