Prime Minister Donald Tusk received French President Emmanuel Macron at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. Politicians are to discuss, among other things, support for Ukraine, the future of transatlantic relations and the Polish presidency of the EU Council. Later, Macron is scheduled to meet President Andrzej Duda.
President France Emmanuel Macron landed in Warsaw on Thursday before 12 p.m. He was welcomed at the airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorskiwho goes to Berlin for a meeting of the so-called EU foreign ministers. The Big Five and Great Britain.
Then, Macron was officially welcomed by the Prime Minister in front of the Prime Minister's Office Donald Tusk. The previous meeting between Tusk and Macron took place in November this year in Budapeston the occasion of the European Political Community Summit. Earlier in February this year, Tusk visited Paris.
The Chancellery of the Prime Minister said that Tusk and Macron would discuss the issue of providing further assistance Ukraine and current political events in the international arena. The issue of the future of transatlantic relations and the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which begins on January 1, 2025, will also be discussed under the slogan “Security, Europe!”.
Macron's meeting with Andrzej Duda
After the meeting, which is scheduled to last less than an hour, both leaders are scheduled to make a statement to the media. Then – at 3 p.m. – Macron will meet the president Andrzej Duda.
The head of the International Policy Office, Mieszko Pawlak, said that the meeting would be a continuation of the behind-the-scenes talks that took place last weekend during the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
– The visit takes place at a special moment. The international situation is becoming more and more complicated. Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, the government of… Georgia decided to freeze relations with the European Union, which caused huge social protests, and the situation in the Middle East is also becoming more complicated. At the same time, we are on the threshold of our Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and in just over a month there will be a change of administration in the United States and the resumption of the presidency by Donald Trump. All this will be reflected in the topics of the talks, announced the presidential minister.
