The plane had to make an emergency landing shortly after taking off from New York. The technical problems were probably caused by a bird that flew straight into the machine's engine, seriously damaging it. One of the passengers managed to capture the moment of impact on video.

The incident took place on Thursday. An American Airlines flight from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, took off as scheduled around 8 p.m. local time. However, shortly after take-off, one of its engines was damaged, and a recording made by one of the passengers shows an object hitting it at high speed.

Crash landing

The fault turned out to be so serious that the pilots decided to make an emergency landing at the nearby John F. Kennedy Airport using the second engine. There were 190 passengers and six crew members on board the Airbus A321. No one was injured.

According to American Airlines, the cause of the failure was probably a collision with a bird that flew straight into the engine. To confirm this hypothesis, the aircraft will be inspected by the airline's service team.

The US Federal Aviation Administration reported that the number of bird collisions is increasing – last year alone, over 19,000 cases were reported at 713 airports in the United States. However, they rarely cause so much damage that planes are forced to make an emergency landing.
