The prosecutor's office is investigating the case of KO MP Kinga Gajewska

On Saturday, Wirtualna Polska reported that the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw is investigating irregularities in Kinga Gajewska's asset declaration. According to the portal, the KO MP was questioned as a witness in this case.

The information on the initiation of an investigation into irregularities in Gajewska's asset declaration was confirmed by the spokesman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw, prosecutor Piotr Skiba, in correspondence with the portal.

Arkadiusz Myrcha and Kinga Gajewska, MPs and spouses from the Civic Coalition, receive their housing allowance for renting a flat in the capital. Even though they live together, each of them receives a lump sum amount of nearly PLN 4,000.

“Investigators are investigating whether the politician submitted a false declaration of assets – without real estate in the town of Błonie near Warsaw. According to the response of the prosecutor's office, investigators are currently collecting and analyzing the necessary documentation. Gajewska has been questioned as a witness at the moment,” the WP website reported.

The irregularities in Gajewska's statements concern the house in Błonie near Warsaw, which the MP received from her parents as a donation in August 2023. “According to the regulations, she had 30 days to report this fact to the register of benefits kept by the Speaker of the Sejm. Meanwhile, she did it only after 392 days, already in the current parliamentary term. This is a violation of Article 35a of the Act on the exercise of the mandate of a deputy and senator, which may result in liability penalty,” the portal indicated.

Wirtualna Polska pointed out that the register of benefits is a public document intended to ensure transparency of parliamentarians' activities and avoid conflicts of interest. “MPs are obliged to report any donations, trips or services financed by third parties. Gajewska noted that the house was included in her annual asset declarations, but – in her opinion – the register of benefits operates on different principles,” we read on the website.

WP also reported that the investigation also covered the PLN 40,000 that Gajewska received as a donation from her husband – Deputy Minister of Justice Arkadiusz Myrcha.

“I received PLN 40,000 from my husband simply to finish the house. We decided that since we had separate property, it would be best to do it in the form of a donation. My fault is that I was about a month late in entering such an activity in the register of benefits. When I realized that I created the document on my own initiative,” the MP assured in an interview with WP.

The prosecutor's office is investigating whether the MP's actions could have been a deliberate concealment of information.
