Heavy snowfall left thousands of homes without electricity in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday. There were serious traffic disruptions and some towns were cut off from the world. It is also falling heavily in Serbia.
Snow covered much of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the most difficult situation in the north and northwest. In some places, snowdrifts reached a height of about two meters.
During heavy rainfall, roads were completely blocked, including the city of Drvar, located in the north-west of Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the night from Monday to Tuesday, dozens of cars were stuck in the snow for many hours. Early Tuesday morning, everyone managed to get out.
Truck traffic is banned on main roads. Authorities urged people to avoid travel, warning that fallen trees could block roads.
Thousands of houses without electricity
Two power companies reported that over 170,000 households, mainly in the northern and western parts of the country, were without electricity due to power line failures.
Rail traffic in the regions most affected by snowstorms has been suspended.

Meteorologists have warned that by Thursday there could be as much snow as has not been seen in years. Orange and yellow weather alerts are in force throughout the country.
Red alerts in Serbia
The snow that has been falling continuously since Monday also led to major problems on roads throughout Serbia. Snowstorms took their toll, among others, on drivers in the capital, Belgrade.
In western Serbia, the meteorological service issued red warnings.
