A great tender for laptops and tablets. Ministry of Digitization: over 735,000 devices

The Ministry of Digitization explained that the tender is about equalizing the level of school equipment into portable multimedia devices. The support will cover over 17,000 branches, and the total value of purchased equipment will be PLN 1.41 billion net.

– A tender for the purchase of equipment for students is an important digital strengthening of Polish education. We are talking about over 735 thousand devices that will go where they are really needed – to schools across the country, regardless of their size and location – said Deputy Minister of Digitization Paweł Olszewski, cited in the ministry.

– Thanks to this, students will gain real access to equipment, which will allow them not only to participate in lessons, but also to develop the skills needed in today's world – from working with information to safe use of the Internet. This is a specific tool for equalizing educational opportunities – he added.

The tender procedure is conducted by the Government Administration Service Center, which operates on behalf of the minister of digitization. The order includes: 404 250 laptops, 110 250 browser laptops and 220,500 tablets.

The Ministry of Digitization explained in a statement that schools to be supported and the number of individual types of equipment that will reach them were determined by the Minister of Education, including based on data collected by Men via surveys.

The equipment is to be transferred to school immediately after signing the contractors with the contractors of the tender, i.e. in the 2025/2026 school year.

The school -running bodies will sign a contract with the minister of digitization, transferring their ownership equipment free of charge.

As the department of digitization pointed out, The purchased equipment will not be transferred to the ownership of the students.

The equipment will be handed over to the school bodies and will be used by students in schools. In exceptional situations, the school will be able to lend the student the equipment in accordance with the regulations specified in this respect specified by the school – the ministry informed.

The prototype for the initiative was the “Laptop for the student” program – one of the PiS flagship programs. According to the assumptions of that program, every parent whose child went to the fourth grade was to get a laptop from the government to home exclusively.

The tender for the purchase of equipment was carried out since October 2022, but computers were transferred in autumn 2023 – just before the parliamentary elections, as a result of which Law and Justice There was an opposition.

The problem of the “Laptop for a student” program was the issue of its financing. PiS wanted the funds to come from the national reconstruction plan. Meanwhile, during the rule of Law and Justice, there was no euro from this program to Poland, and the purchase of laptops was finally financed from funds controlled by the government of the Polish Development Fund.

After the first year from the program, which was implemented since October 2022, about fifteen thousand devices returned to warehouses (from about 400,000). Finally the government Donald Tusk He decided to transfer laptops to schools from flood areas.

On February 8, 2024, the Minister of Digitization during a joint conference with the Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka He reported that the “Laptop for the student” program was suspended. At that time, work was announced on the new version of the program, which was to receive the name “Digital Student”.
