Chaos reigns at Austrian airports. In the past week alone, more than 1,000 flights have been delayed and nearly 100 have been canceled.
According to information provided by Austrian airports, 1,129 delays were recorded between July 10 and 16, while 72 flights were cancelled. These figures put Austria in first place in Europe when it comes to delayed connections, accounting for 42% of all flights.
In second place are Germanywhere 38 percent of flights were delayed during that time. Delays of at least 15 minutes are included in the statistics.
Chaos and delays at Austrian airports
In most cases, delays are caused by adverse weather conditions. The past week in Austria was marked by intense storms and hail. The regularity of flights is also affected by protests at other European airports.
Experts point out that this situation will probably continue for several more weeks. In their opinion, this is due to the record high number of airline tickets purchased this summer, as well as staff shortages, both in terms of airlines and ground handling. The situation is also complicated by problems with the delivery of new Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
