Irish actor Barry Keoghan has deactivated his Instagram account. In a statement published over the weekend, the actor wrote that he took such a step following the “inhuman” comments he received there. He also mentioned people “hanging out” in front of the house where his son lives and “intimidating” his relatives.
Barry Keoghan has decided to leave the Instagram community. The Irish actor deactivated his account on the website this weekend. On Saturday, he officially commented on the reasons for his decision. The 32-year-old emphasized that he usually does not react to “slandering his name on the Internet”, but this time he decided to speak out because “too many boundaries have been crossed”.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter – ed.), Keoghan emphasized that no one should read the words about him that were directed at him on Instagram. Later in the message, the actor explained that the messages he received there were full of “absolute lies”, “hateful and disgusting comments about his appearance, character and what kind of parent I am” and other “inhuman things”.
Barry Keoghan on his childhood
Hater comments even targeted Keoghan's mother, who died of drug addiction when the actor was 12 years old. The future actor grew up in several foster families, and after many years he was again taken into the care of relatives. Despite his difficult experiences, he repeatedly emphasized that he had no grudge against his mother and had positive feelings for her. – I have great memories with her. I'm very proud of her – he said during a visit to “The Late Late Show” in 2018. In a statement released Saturday, he referred to her as his “dear mother.”
In an interview years ago, Keoghan emphasized that his mother “simply couldn't take care of us. My father wasn't there, so we were taken into care.” He added that he was talking about his difficult past “so that younger children know that no matter where they come from, they can always achieve what they dream of.”
'This is crossing the border'
The actor also wrote about people who allegedly “sat” in front of his son's house and “intimidated” his relatives. “This is crossing the line,” he said firmly. Referring to comments that he was inappropriately taking care of the child, the 32-year-old emphasized that “every day I mobilize myself at every possible level” to be a better father for him. “Remember that when he is older, he will have to read all this about his dad,” he added, referring to the words about himself.
The attacks on the actor intensified when he separated from the mother of his child. Much attention was also paid to his relationship and subsequent breakup with American singer Sabrina Carpenter. Keoghan is known for his appearances in productions such as “Saltburn”, “The Ghosts of Inisherin”, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”, “Dunkirk” and “Bird”. He also appeared in the series “Chernobyl” and “Peaky Blinders”.
