It was about fighting polluted air. It was officially on the documents, but in reality there were over two thousand meetings of PiS candidates with the participation of parliamentarians – said MichaĆ Szczerba, MEP of the Civic Coalition, referring to reports about Law and Justice using the EU “Clean Air” program for the 2018 election campaign . Dariusz JoĆski added that Mateusz Morawiecki, among others, took part in the meetings. MEPs announced that they would submit reports to the prosecutor's office.
“Gazeta Wyborcza” wrote on Thursday that “under the guise of promoting the 'Clean Air' program, Law and Justice politicians organized meetings with voters throughout Poland.” “The money was spent within six weeks,” it was noted.
The daily noted that “Clean Air is the flagship ecological project of the PiS government, thanks to which Poles could obtain funding for replacing furnaces in their homes. The program was financed from European funds.”
Szczerba: The ground for political electoral corruption has been prepared for years
MEPs from the Civic Coalition, Dariusz JoĆski and MichaĆ Szczerba, commented on this issue at the conference in Brussels.
– What we presented at the Poland of the Future Campus, regarding illegal financing of the 2023 election campaign, This is just a foretaste of what we want to announce today – commented Szczerba. As he assessed, “this ground for great political electoral corruption had been prepared for many years, with the same intermediary who was the intermediary in financing the illegal campaigns of, among others, Jacek Sasin, Marlena MalÄ g, Andrzej Ćliwka and Jadwiga Emilewicz.”
– Namely, in 2018, just before the local government campaign, the Berm company was commissioned to organize a meeting in local governments before the elections regarding the EU “Clean Air” program. It was about fighting polluted air. It was officially on the documents, but in reality there were over two thousand meetings of PiS candidates for local government officials with the participation of parliamentarians – said the MEP.
As he said, “there is an invoice for this, which amounts to PLN 4,605,603.90.” – This is the amount for illegal electioneering of PiS candidates. Exactly at the beginning of the election campaign, this program of meetings is launched, he said.
Szczerba noted that he and MEP JoĆski had “documents and e-mails in which the guidelines were sent from the political office of the Minister of the Environment Henryk Kowalczyk, today PiS treasurer, to 41 PiS coordinators.” – These are meetings that you should take advantage of and squeeze everything out of them like a lemon. These are meetings where you are supposed to come with PiS candidates and promote them before the local elections – Szczerba quoted the content of the message, assessing that “it was pure election agitation”.
JoĆski: what was Mateusz Morawiecki doing there?
As JoĆski said: “today we are showing an example of a heist on elections and a heist on money.” – The entire “Clean Air” campaign was included in the contract between September 4 and October 26, 2018. It just so happens that this is exactly what happened at the time of the local government elections, he said.
– The Bern company, which last year produced gadgets for Deputy Prime Minister Sasin using money from State Treasury companies, was supposed to organize 2,474 meetings. Why so many meetings? Because there are more or less that many communes, he noted.
The MEP said that “these were not meetings about clean air.” – They were simply purely political, in which PiS politicians and candidates took part, including in local government elections – he added.
He mentioned that top-level PiS politicians attended such meetings, including Mateusz Morawiecki, Robert Telus and JarosĆaw ZieliĆski. – What was Mateusz Morawiecki doing there? He didn't talk about clean air, he just attacked the opposition, JoĆski said.
MEPs announced that they would submit reports to the prosecutor's office.
