Experts for growing plants recommend that before Easter look thoroughly boxwood in our gardens. Inside, boxwood moth may lurk – an insect that is able to destroy the bushes in just a few days.

Boxwood moth (Cidalima perspectalis) In Europe, it is an invasive species of a butterfly from the fan -shaped family. It comes from Asia, and in Poland appeared around 2012. Her larvae feed on various types of boxwood. The insect is the bane of gardeners because it can eat a whole bush at a rapid pace.

– There is no answer to him in the form of predators in Poland so far so that other insects or birds eat larvae of this butterfly. The boxwood moth ruthlessly eats boxwood. If on Thursday, Friday we will see a lot of her on our boxwood, then on Monday there will be a so -called barefoot – only branches will remain and all leaves will be eaten – says engineer Mateusz Sowolo, curator of the Botanical Garden Collection of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Cognition.

Boxwood moth. How to fight her

The expert in an interview with tvnmeteo.pl advises that in the near future look thoroughly boxwood in our gardens. It is worth doing before Easter, which this year falls on the second half of April. Insect eggs are difficult to see, because females stick them underneath the leaves. Breaks of shrubs can also be covered with yarn, dense places, reminiscent of cobweb. You can also notice a lot of pests droppings.

– In our garden, in April we perform the first treatment with plant protection products – adds Sowolo.

The specialist points out that in the fight against boxwood moth we should use a specially intended preparation. Thanks to this, we will get rid of the unwanted pest, while not destroying other insects.
