The Canadian court imposed a lifetime imprisonment for two killers of the officer Greg Pierzchała, a policeman of Polish origin, who died during his official duties in December 2022 – the media said on Friday.
On Thursday evening, the sworn unanimously recognized a woman and a man guilty of first -degree murders and sentenced them to life imprisonment without the possibility of applying for a conditional dismissal for 25 years – the public sender of the CBC said. The convicts pleaded not guilty. The process lasted over a year.
Judge Andrew Goodman emphasized that the actions of the killers were carried out “in cold blood” and, addressing the members of the family, Pierzchali emphasized that by dividing their mourning, he hopes that they would get “a sense of closing the case”.
The 28-year-old Pierzchała grew up in Barrie, a city north of Toronto. Canadian media quoted his colleagues many times that he wanted to be a policeman from the age of five. On the day of the tragic event, he was informed that he successfully completed a ten -month trial period in the police of Ontario.
Shot while performing official duties
He was shot, responding to the call to Hagersville in the Direct Population reserve west of Hamilton to check the car in the ditch. A few hours later, the police took a 25-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman who, according to the police, pulled in an ambush.
Several thousand people participated in the funeral ceremonies of Pierzchala in Barrie, in January 2023. The Union of Podhale in Canada wrote after the death of Pierzchała in social media that for many years he was a member of the band “Mali Harnas”, “he had a big heart and was always smiling.”
