In the event of an unforeseen closure of a nursery, children's club, kindergarten or school attended by a child, a parent taking care of a healthy child up to 8 years of age is entitled to a care allowance – informed Grzegorz Dyjak from the Social Insurance Institution on Tuesday.

As a result of flooding in the Lower Silesia, Opole, Lubusz and Silesian provinces, classes have been suspended in over 600 schools, kindergartens and educational institutions, the Ministry of National Education announced on Tuesday.

In a statement sent on Tuesday, Dyjak reminded that in the event of an unforeseen closure of a nursery, children's club, kindergarten or school attended by a child, a parent taking care of a healthy child up to the age of eight has the right to care allowance.

Care allowance for whom and for how much?

He added that the maximum period for receiving the care allowance is 60 days in a calendar year. This limit applies to all family members entitled to the care allowance, regardless of their number, regardless of the number of children and other family members requiring care. The care allowance is granted if there are no other family members who can provide care for the child. However, this condition does not apply to care for a sick child under the age of two. In such a case, the allowance is granted even if another family member can provide care for the child. Dyjak informed that in order to receive the allowance, it is necessary to submit a Z-15A application and a certificate that the nursery, children's club, kindergarten or school attended by the child has been unexpectedly closed.
