A dangerous event occurred in the Magellan Strait at the Chilean coast. Two men swam kayaks when a whale appeared unexpectedly on the water surface. The animal caught one of the kayaks.
The Venezuelan canoeist survived moments of horror while a trip to the Chilean coast of Patagonia, when he suddenly found himself in the mouth of a humbak. Nothing happened to the man and his father recorded his adventure on the phone.
“I thought he ate and swallowed me”
24-year-old Adrian Simancas and his father Dell swam a kayak near the San Isidoro lantern in the Magellan Strait, when a humback emerged above the water surface. The animal grabbed Adrian's kayak in the mouth, immersed for a few seconds, and then released the prey.
Dell, whose kayak was at a distance of just a few meters, recorded the whole event. On the video you can hear him shouting to the already released son: “Relax, calmly, hold on.”
– I thought I was dead. I thought he ate and swallowed a whale – said Adrian Agencja AP.
He added that real terror only overwhelmed him when he was back on the surface of the water.
In a few seconds, Adrian managed to reach his father and both safely, without any injuries, returned to the shore.

Rare cases
In Chilean waters, whaling attacks on people are extremely rare, while there are more and more cases of death of these animals after collision with commercial ships. Over the past decade, the resulting whales ashore have also become a problem.
In 2021, the American diver Michael Packard found himself in Humbak's mouth for 40 seconds. As a result of the incident that occurred off the coast of Massachusetts, he only dislocated his knee.
Humps can measure 15 meters and weigh 36 tons. Their world population is estimated at 60,000.
