China is considering the construction of a nuclear power plant on the moon. It would supply the international research station on the moon (ILRS), a project under the aegis of Chinese and Russian Space Agency.
The plan of the International Research Station on the Moon (ILRS) presented in 2024 assumes the construction of the “basic model” by 2035. It would be built at the southern pole of our natural satellite.
The Chang 8 mission, which is scheduled for 2028, is to prepare the ground for the construction of a permanent, manned moon base. China, who have their own space station, want to send taiconauts to the moon by 2030.
Nuclear power plant on the moon
Last year, the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos donated plans to build a nuclear power plant on the surface of the moon together with the Chinese national space administration until 2035 to power ILRS.
– The source of energy for the base can also be large -scale solar panels, which will be arranged on the surface of the Silver Globe – said on Thursday at the Pei Zhaoyu conference, Chinese Chinese Mission Engineer Chang 8.
The Chinese schedule for building an institution at the southern pole of the moon coincides with the Artemis program of the American agency NASAwhich aim is to place American astronauts back on the surface of the moon in December 2025.
According to the plans announced by the Chinese Space Agency, CNSA and Russian Roskosmos, ILRS is to give the opportunity to conduct long -term research in many fields, and in the further perspective to be a base for manned missions.
