There is a decision: Authorities China approved the construction the world's largest hydroelectric dam. The structure is to be built on the river Yarlung Zangbo in the eastern Tibetan plateau. The hydroelectric power plant on the dam will produce 300 billion kilowatt hours electricity per year. This is more than three times the production of the current world's largest Central Three Gorges Dam China.
Huge expenses: Costs construction of a dam in Tibet is to be much higher from the expenditure on the Three Gorges Dam, which cost almost 35 billion dollars. This is four times more than initial estimates.
Will a dam deprive residents of water? India and Bangladesh have expressed concerns over the construction of the dam. Project maybe change the local ecosystem and the course of the river. This, in turn, could deprive millions of people in the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and parts of Bangladesh.
