Police from Cieszyn have detained a 24-year-old woman who ran out of a grocery store with stolen goods and – in an attempt to escape – crossed a river. There, a saleswoman caught up with her, and a scuffle broke out between the women. The saleswoman was beaten, bitten and drowned. The attacker faces up to 10 years in a cell.
The woman, as we read in a statement published on the Cieszyn police website, drew the attention of the staff because she was clearly nervous. Shortly afterwards, she ran out of the store with unpaid goods. One of the saleswomen gave chase after the fleeing woman.
“The case became complicated when the perpetrator wanted to cross the river with the goods, which was difficult due to the high water level and the heavy weight of the stolen items,” the police said.
A scuffle broke out between the women in the water, ending with the beating of the saleswoman. The 24-year-old ran away, leaving her purchases behind.
Detained and arrested
Police officers were called to the scene and first provided aid to the 45-year-old shop assistant. When the ambulance arrived, the officers, along with other police officers, began searching.
“After several dozen minutes, the officers noticed a woman matching the description, but wearing dry clothes,” the police said.
It turned out that the woman had already changed. “After the woman was detained, investigators collected extensive evidence in this case,” we read on the police website.
At the request of the prosecutor, the court decided to temporarily arrest the 24-year-old. The woman faces up to 10 years in prison for armed robbery.
