Iga Świątek plays with Linda Noskova in the match to extend Poland's chances of advancing to the semi-finals of the unofficial World Championships.
On Saturday in Malaga, Magdalena Fręch lost to Marie Bouzkova 1:6, 6:4, 4:6 in the first match of the Poland-Czech Republic match. At stake is the semi-final of the Billie Jean King Cup. The team that scores two points will win it. Świątek plays with Noskova to equalize the score at 1:1. If Iga wins, the winner of the Poland-Czech Republic match will be a doubles match.
The leader of our team started the match well – she broke Noskova in the first game. I wonder what impact the situation from the first action had on the Czech woman's attitude. In the middle of a good, powerful forehand rally, the out-of-bounds system suddenly ordered the game to be stopped. This happened after Noskova's alleged car accident. Świątek's face immediately showed great surprise. Noskova, on the other hand, smiled a little nervously while waiting for the judge's decision.
The referee of the match assessed that the action should be repeated. And then Noskova made a double service fault. The Czech made another double service fault at 30:40, i.e. at the breakpoint for Świątek. In this way, the Pole gained 1-0, and after a while, with her serve, she increased the score to 2-0.
Świątek is playing with Noskova for the fifth time in his career. The balance of their battles is favorable for the Pole – Iga won three matches against Linda, but she remembers her only defeat because it occurred in a match of a special importance – in the third round of this year's Australian Open.
Now, let's hope Świątek calmly and confidently wins and thus equalizes the Poland-Czech Republic match.
