Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport is having problems with baggage check-in. Some passengers are leaving without their suitcases, which are being sent on subsequent flights, while others are waiting for their luggage for several hours after arrival. Airport authorities have appealed to travelers to take important medications with them on board the plane.

According to airport spokeswoman Klara Diviszkova, the reason for the problems with checking in baggage is greater than expected traffic at the airport.

Even a few hours of waiting

She said that priority is given to the luggage of departing passengers, and if the suitcases are not loaded, the airport sends them to their destinations on subsequent flights.

This, however, means that passengers who flew to Prague may have to wait for their luggage for up to several hours.

Appeal to passengers

The airport is appealing to passengers to fill out a complaint form and wait for their luggage at home or a hotel. A temporary hotline has been set up for travellers whose luggage has not arrived at their destination.

Airport authorities attribute the situation to air traffic congestion, delays and a sudden shortage of staff at the baggage handling company. The airport has sent its administrative staff to help.
