Unfortunately, the firecracker exploded in his hand. As a result of the incident, the footballer suffered hand injuries and lost one finger. He was then quickly transported by ambulance to the hospital, where doctors had to amputate two of his fingers in half.
– After the referee's final whistle, a firecracker was thrown onto the pitch. Initially, everyone thought it was a smoke bomb, but then it turned out that it was actually a Cobra 6 firecracker. It is a heavy pyrotechnic weapon that is banned in our country – said Schiafino in an interview with the portal “Het Laatste Nieuws”, quoted by Golazo.ro.
“When the smoke cleared, I noticed that I was missing a few fingers,” he added. – I haven't slept or eaten for almost two days. I was taken from one operating room to another. I've already had three or four surgeries, he concluded.
The perpetrator has already been identified and detained by the police. He is a 21-year-old from Wevelgem. – We are very disappointed and distance ourselves from this person. Our club does not know him, but he (the perpetrator – editor's note) has already been identified. (…) The club will provide the necessary cooperation in the investigation, which will be conducted by both the police and the Belgian Football Federation,” KSCT Menen wrote in a statement.
