Expensive Roku, you ruined my TV

Roku has made my TV unusable.

On June sixth, my TCL TV’s Roku OS was up to date to model 13.0.0. Ever since, on all the things I watch, there’s movement smoothing — a TV and movie purists’ deepest nightmare. There is no such thing as a method to flip it off.

Within the up to date OS, Roku added a function referred to as Roku Good Image, which, based on its release notes, “routinely improves image high quality dynamically as customers stream.” Whereas Roku doesn’t explicitly point out movement smoothing, or what Roku calls “action smoothing,” the replace has made it in order that I and lots of others with Roku TVs see movement smoothing, no matter whether or not the image setting is Roku Good Image or not. My TV didn’t even help movement smoothing earlier than this. Now, I can’t make it go away.
