Vladimir Putin did not decide to extend the Easter truce in Ukraine – the Kremlin spokesman said on Sunday. Russia and Ukraine blamed themselves on Sunday of breaking a one -day suspension of weapons, accusing each other of hundreds of attacks.
Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday a 30 -hour “Easter truce”, guided – as he said – “Humanitarian reasons”. – On my order, all military activities are to be suspended at that time – the leader was to say Russia head of the Russian armed forces.
Five hours before the planned end of the truce, the TASS agency cited the statement of the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskow, who stated that Putin did not give the order to extend the arms suspension.
“Putin's words about the suspension of weapons turned out to be empty”
The President proposed an extension of the weapon suspension on Saturday Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski, provided that Easter truce becomes a fact. On Sunday, however, the authorities in Kiev announced that Russia did not observe the declared suspension of fights, continuing the artillery fire of Ukraine on Saturday night. The Russians were also to carry out further attacks during the day on Sunday.
“Putin's words about the suspension of weapons turned out to be empty” – wrote Zelanski on the X platform. “This year's Easter clearly showed that Russia is the only source of this war and the culprit of its dragging,” he said, adding that Ukraine is ready to “head towards peace and full, unconditional and indifferent suspension of weapons that could last at least 30 days.” “But so far there is no response from Russia in this matter. The situation on the front line shows that to establish a real suspension of weapons you need pressure on Moscow and true supervision over the actions of the occupation forces” – he added.
Moscow made similar allegations against Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense of Russia has announced that Ukraine has broken a truce over a thousand times, causing damage to infrastructure and the death of civilians. The ministry stated that the Ukrainian forces fired at Russian positions 444 times and conducted over 900 drone attacks.
The Reuters agency pointed out that it is unable to verify the claims of any party.
“The visible inability to follow even an Easter truce shows how difficult it will be for US President Donald Trump to achieve the goal of concluding a lasting agreement ending a bloody war in Ukraine,” says Reuters.
