More and more expensive eggs in Poland: Egg prices have increased to as much as in recent months PLN 1.5 per piece. The poultry industry estimates that the reason for the growing prices Is shortage of laying hens and bird flu epidemic. Only in the province Greater Poland Voivodeship was executed as a result of this disease 1.7 million hens.
What's next for egg prices? Katarzyna GawroÅ„ska, general director of the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers (KIPDiP), believes that the biggest price increases are already behind usand the situation seems to be stable. In her opinion, no sudden increases should be expected in the coming weeks. – Of course the situation may change in the event of any unexpected phenomenon, such as the further spread of bird flu – emphasized GawroÅ„ska.
Will there be no eggs in stores? The National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers also estimates that despite the loss of many hens there will be no shortage of eggs on store shelves. As the chamber emphasizes, the production level by approx. 30 percent exceeds the national demand for eggs. Poland is one of the main egg producers in the European Unionafter France, Spain and Germany. Our country has 14 percent. share in the EU market. Poland exports about 40 percent domestic production.
Limited egg production in the US: Within three months, the population of commercial laying hens in the United States was reduced by approximately 20.5 million pieces due to the bird flu virus – indicates KIPDiP. Apart from flocks of laying hens disease outbreaks were confirmed, among others: on farms keeping slaughter chickens and turkeys. December was the most difficult month for table egg producers, and monthly data indicate an increasing dynamics of infection growth. The chamber's analyzes show that losses in October were estimated at 2.8 million hensin November on 4.5 million hensand in December commercial herds were reduced by approx 13.2 million pieces of laying poultry.
