Three people have been charged with breaking into the private email account of the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister Michał Dworczyk, reports “Rzeczpospolita”. The suspects allegedly found the logins and passwords needed for this on the internet. According to the newspaper's findings, they were charged two years ago, and since then the prosecutor's office has not been able to find other people who accessed the minister's email account.

According to the newspaper, the three suspects got into the minister's email in June 2021, using passwords found on the Internet. As “Rzeczpospolita” recalled on Friday, in June 2021, messages stolen from private email Michał Dworczyk began publishing the “Confidential Conversation” service on the Telegram messenger. It was correspondence with politicians, including those from the prime minister's circle Mateusz Morawiecki.

“Rzeczpospolita” emphasizes that the three suspects got into the minister's email at a time when stolen content from the mailbox had been appearing on Telegram for a dozen or so days. They are therefore not the perpetrators of the hack – the newspaper emphasizes. “Rzeczpospolita” reminds that logins and passwords to email boxes, including those of Dworczyk and his interlocutors, appeared on the network in February 2021 as a result of a huge leak of such data.

According to information from “Rz”, the first suspect admitted to accessing Dworczyk's email using stolen logins and passwords out of curiosity about whether access data that appeared on one of the hacker forums would work. The second one allegedly testified that he did not remember the events covered by the accusation, and the third did not admit to it. According to “Rz” findings, they were charged two years ago, and since then the prosecutor's office has not been able to find other people who accessed the minister's email.

“Rz”: the suspects probably did not know each other

The newspaper, citing the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office, writes that there is no evidence that the suspects knew each other, and no evidence was found that any of them made use of the break-in to the email box and the correspondence stored there. It was also not established that they passed on the information from the box to anyone. The charge they were charged with, however, is that of “obtaining data enabling unauthorized access to information stored in the email computer system.”
