Thousands of people welcomed the bodies of four hostages abducted by Hamas almost a year and a half ago. Among them is the body of Lifszica, who also had Polish citizenship. The most emotions are the donation of the bodies of the Bibas family – mother and two of her sons. Kfir was only nine months old at the time of the kidnapping. The father of boys' children was released earlier as part of the arms suspension contained in January.

The Red Cross appealed for privacy and a dignified transfer of hostage bodies, but crowds of onlookers gathered in Hanyunus. Hamas terrorists placed four black coffins on the stage, behind which there was a propaganda poster with slogans in Arabic, Hebrew and English and photos of killed hostages. Among them, two young children, Ariel and Kfir brothers, who were abducted from their own home.

“Our hearts, the hearts of the whole nation are torn. On behalf of the Israeli state, I bowed my head, asking for forgiveness for not protecting you on this terrible day, that we did not bring you safely home” – wrote on the website X the president of Israel Israel Israel Isaac Herzog.

Kfir was the youngest of the kidnapped hostages

The Bibas family was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz. At the time of abduction, Ariel was four years old, his brother Kfir only nine months. The boy was the youngest of 251 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The recording of a terrified Shiri, holding in the arms of its sons, has become one of the most moving images that day.

– Shiri and her children were in their own home, in their kibbutz, still in pajamas, which the whole world and our country saw. A country that failed to protect them – said Dan Silberman Sitton, sister of Shiri Bibas on February 3. “Shiri and her children became a symbol,” noted Yifatach Cohen, a resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz.

A photo of a smiling kfir regularly appeared on posters calling for releasing hostages. Hamas claimed that only a month after kidnapping the boys and their mother died in Israeli shell, but the Israeli authorities never confirmed this information.

The father of the children spent 484 days in captivity

When in January they published the names of people who were to be released in the first phase of the arms suspension, the Israelis regained hope, because the whole Bibass family was on the list. 34-year-old Yarden, father of children, returned home on February 1. He spent 484 days in captivity.

– Yarden says that he was kept in many places, in difficult conditions, for a long time there was a lack of food, and the sanitary conditions were weak, lost a lot of weight, lost muscle mass and he barely saw sunlight – described on February 3, Obri Bibas Levy, sister Yarden, described Bibasa.

The fourth body passed on to Israel belongs to Odada Lifszica, a retired journalist and peace activist, who also has Polish citizenship. The man was 83 years old when he and his wife were abducted from the Nir Oz fan. The woman was released two weeks later. The man's close to the end clung to hope.

– We know that my father lived when he got to the Gaza Strip. We know that for the first few weeks he was held with another hostage. He was in poor condition when he was kidnapped. This is an element of cruelty, as a 83 -year -old man can be abducted – admitted Sharone Lifschitz on January 20, the daughter of the Lifszica.

After handing over the bodies, they were transferred to new coffins covered with Israeli flags. A short military ceremony took place at the request of the families.

“Most of the population feels a loss, feels rage”

Along the route leading from the border with the Gaza Strip to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, where the remains were transported to identify, the Israelis lined up. Crowds of people gathered at the Square Square in Tel Aviv.

“This is probably the saddest day from October 7,” said Amir Aharon, a resident of Tel Aviv. – It exceeds the human concept. I think that most of the society feels a loss, feels rage – added Yosef Livne, a resident of Tel Aviv.

On Monday, 500 days have passed since Hamas's attack on Israel. Nearly 70 hostages are detained in the gauze zone.

At the beginning of March, the second phase of the weapon suspension should come into force, but it has not yet been negotiated. Hamas stated that he is ready to free all other abducted as part of one exchange, if the second stage of the agreement comes into force next month.

Since the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East, initiated by Hamas's attack on Israel, more than 48,000 people lost their lives. It is the vast majority of Palestinians who died as a result of Israel's retaliation. Such data is provided by the Hamas Ministry of Health with the Gaza Zone.
