The Council of Ministers has adopted the budget for next year, thanks to which we know what expenses to expect and which to forget. Among the latter is, among others, the increase in the funeral allowance, which has been unchanged since 2011. And despite the fact that the costs funeral today it is about 7-10 thousand zlotys, the benefit is still only 4 thousand zlotys.
The funeral allowance was one of the topics of the election campaign
– More and more people say that for them it is a double trauma, because they have lost a loved one and have no money to bury them. The families of the deceased have to look for moneyto bury a loved one with dignity, often getting into debt in the process – said Monika Falej from the Left during the election campaign. Raising the benefit to PLN 7,000 was one of the party's election promises.
The increase in the funeral allowance was also included in the 100 specifics of the Civic Coalition. It promised to increase it to 150%. minimum wageor up to PLN 6,450. Just two weeks ago, the Minister of Finance, Andrzej Domański, granted Polsat Newsthat “the funeral allowance has not been indexed for many years and sees room for its increase to an amount exceeding PLN 6,450”. Ultimately, however, there was no room for this in the budget.
Media: There was willingness, but no money
Because despite Donald Tusk's repeated “generosity” and the PLN 289 billion deficit, there was not enough money for this purpose. RMF FM learned that the draft of next year's state budget does not include an increase in the funeral allowance. The Minister of Finance decided to postpone these plans until 2026.
Increasing the benefit would cost the state around PLN 2 billion. It was decided that we cannot afford it at the moment, even though the Ministry WorkFamily and Social Policy prepared a draft for the list of legislative works governmentwhich assumed an increase in the funeral allowance.
