Three people were injured in an accident that occurred in Gdynia on ChwarznieĆska Street on Tuesday evening. On a forest section of the road, a city bus collided with two passenger cars. One of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol.
On Tuesday, three vehicles collided on ChwarznieĆska Street in Gdynia just before 8 p.m. Initial police information suggests that a 49-year-old man driving a Volkswagen Lupo tried to overtake a Nissan Micra driven by a 22-year-old woman despite the ban.
– The driver did not have time to perform the manoeuvre, hit head-on the bus traveling in the contra-lane and hit the Nissan Micra – reported Deputy Commissioner Jolanta Grunert, press officer of the City Police Headquarters in Gdynia.
The 22-year-old woman driving the car and the 47-year-old city bus driver were sober. The 49-year-old driver smelled of alcohol.
– Due to his serious condition, it was not possible to conduct a full sobriety test. Therefore, a passive breathalyzer test was conducted, which only confirmed the presence of alcohol in the man's body – said Sub-inspector Grunert.
Two people in hospital
According to the policewoman, there were about 10 people travelling in the city bus. Three people were injured: the bus driver, a passenger and the driver of the passenger car, which was freed from the stuck vehicle using hydraulic equipment.
The injured passenger was treated on the spot by the Medical Rescue Team. Both drivers were transported to hospital. One of them by LPR helicopter. The other passengers of the city bus were unharmed.
The disruptions on ChwarzyĆska Street lasted over 2 hours. The scene of the incident and the vehicles involved were examined on site.
