Głodowo Wielkie. Woman in hospital after riding one scooter with her drunk brother

A 40-year-old man from the Nasielsk commune took his 43-year-old sister for a ride on his scooter. At one point, their vehicle overturned and the woman was injured and taken to hospital. It turned out that the man was completely drunk.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3. Just after 7 p.m., the officer on duty at the Nasielsk police station was informed about the incident that occurred in Głodów Wielkie, in the Nasielsk commune. Officers who immediately went to the scene determined that a 40-year-old man riding an electric scooter had fallen onto the roadway. The man was transporting his 43-year-old sister on the scooter. As a result of the fall, the woman suffered injuries and was taken to hospital. After tests were performed, it turned out that the resident of the Ciechanów commune did not require further hospitalization.

He had 2.5 per mille, he will pay dearly for it

– The police smelled alcohol on the driver. It turned out that the probable cause of the 40-year-old losing control of the scooter was the 40-year-old's intoxication. The test showed almost 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system – said Commissioner Joanna Wielocha, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki. She added: – The Nowy Dwór traffic police issued a fine of PLN 2,500 for riding a scooter while intoxicated and PLN 1,100 for causing a road accident.

12-year-old injured in separate accident

Another incident involving an electric scooter took place on Saturday at 6 p.m. on the Kosiny Stare-Kosiny Kapiczne road in the Wiśniewo commune. According to initial findings, the 12-year-old, for reasons still undetermined, drove off the roadside and then lost control of the scooter. He fell onto the roadway, sustaining head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. He was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Olsztyn in serious condition.

Rules to remember

The police remind that the driver of an electric scooter is obliged to use a bicycle path or a bicycle lane, if they are designated for the direction in which he is moving or intends to turn – at the permissible speed 20 kilometers per hour. – In addition, he is obliged to use the roadway on which the movement of vehicles is permitted at a speed not exceeding 30 kilometers per hour in the absence of a separate bicycle path and a bicycle lane, with a permissible speed 20 kilometers per hour – noted Commissioner Wielocha.

The policewoman also stressed that the driver may exceptionally move on the sidewalk or a pedestrian path, when the pavement is situated along a roadway on which vehicle traffic is permitted at a speed exceeding 30 kilometres per hour and there is no separate cycle path or cycle lane. But in compliance with the following rules: driving at a speed close to that of a pedestrian, exercising particular caution, giving way to pedestrians and not obstructing pedestrian traffic.

– We would like to remind you that for riding an electric scooter after consuming alcohol (from 0.2 to 0.5 per mille) the fine is PLN 1,000, while for riding a scooter under the influence of alcohol (over 0.5 per mille) the fine increases to PLN 2,500 – the policewoman summed up.
