– At the moment, there are no signals from diplomatic channels indicating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to take part in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi Auschwitz-Birkenau camp – said Maciej Berek, head of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers, in the “#BezKitu” program ” on TVN24. He added that the work of the Council of Ministers on the resolution on the possible participation of the Israeli authorities in the event began in December, a few weeks before Andrzej Duda's letter to Donald Tusk.
On Thursday, the Polish government adopted a resolution declaring that it will ensure free and safe participation of Israel's highest representatives in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. Previously to Donald Tusk in the case of the Prime Minister of Israel, prosecuted by International Criminal Court in connection with the war being waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip, the president asked Andrzej Duda.
On Friday, he explained the government's decision to adopt the resolution on TVN24 Maciej Berekhead of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers. – The government said it would create and guarantee conditions for this anniversary to be honored and celebrated with dignity by all who want to take part in it – he said.
– We are talking about a dramatic history, a place that commemorates a torture, one of the largest genocides in human history. We are talking about the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp and that this anniversary must be commemorated with dignity, he added.
Berek emphasized that work on the concept of the resolution was led by the Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar and Minister of Foreign Affairs RadosÅ‚aw Sikorskiin consultation with Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The work was supposed to start a few weeks ago. – Already in December it was known that this case was on the horizon as a challenge to take up – said Berek.
At the same time, he stated that there is no indication that the Prime Minister of Israel would appear at the anniversary. – All signs indicate that this potential collision and legal problem will not materialize at all. Minister Berek on President Duda's move
– We know our responsibility, we know the calendar, we know the context of these celebrations. We knew what to do. Therefore, I would simply note the president's speech as what it was, said Berek, referring to Andrzej Duda's letter to Donald Tusk. – This means that this move by the president neither strengthened us nor brought us any benefits – he added.
President Andrzej Duda sent a letter to Prime Minister Donald Tusk in which he asked the Polish government to provide protection against arrest to the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahuif he came to Poland to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz camp. Bloomberg was the first to report this information on Thursday.
When presenting the resolution on Thursday, the head of government also referred to Duda's letter. – For many days we have had information from the embassy that the State of Israel is to be represented by the Minister of Education, so in general this whole matter is taking on the character of a political demonstration, completely unnecessary – he commented.

Berek on the National Electoral Commission's resolution: I would advise Domański to wait a while
Maciej Berek commented on the resolution of the National Electoral Commission regarding money for PIS. At the end of December, executing the decision of the unrecognized Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court, the National Electoral Commission adopted the financial report of the PiS committee from the 2023 parliamentary elections, emphasizing, however, that it does not determine whether the IKNiSP is a court. After the Minister of Finance Andrzej DomaÅ„ski asked the National Electoral Commission to interpret its resolution due to its “internally contradictory content”, the National Electoral Commission asked him to “immediately” indicate the legal basis for this request.
The TVN24 guest said that the head of the Ministry of Finance consulted him before sending his request to the National Electoral Commission. – We had the opportunity to talk, more than once, – said the minister. In his opinion, the content of the letter that DomaÅ„ski sent to the National Electoral Commission is “a very good arrangement of the matter.” – Because we cannot forget in this history how it turned out – he added. He recalled that PiS representatives “extremely and blatantly” abused public funds.
When asked what he would advise DomaÅ„ski in this situation, Berek replied that he would advise him to “wait a bit.” – We have statements from members of the National Electoral Commission who say: “indeed, we have to look into this resolution, because it is not clear” – said the minister.
Three arrest warrants
In November, the ICC issued three arrest warrants: for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and Hamas commander Mohammed Deif. They were charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with conflict in the Gaza Strip. According to Israel, the wanted Hamas terrorist is dead; he was supposed to have died within half a year between the prosecutor's application and the court's decision in this case. However, Hamas neither confirmed nor denied this information.
The war in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023 when Hamas launched an attack on Israel. As a result, 1,200 people died and over 250 were taken prisoner. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the conflict began.
